Aschersleben. As the new school term begins, the District Adult Education Centre is also launching new courses at its Aschersleben site. On Monday 17 August, things are set to kick off at 10 am with ‘Yogilates’ – a course comprising nine 90-minute sessions, well suited to beginners. The course leader looks forward to welcoming participants to a session that exercises both body and mind, involving stretching, lengthening and mindful breathing. The combination of strengthening and relaxing elements provides the perfect full-body workout.
In the afternoon, at 4 pm and 5 pm, the children will be back at art school. During this half-year course, they will try out various painting and drawing techniques, experiment with colours and mixing them, and also do some modelling and craftwork.
Qi Gong is a Chinese form of meditation, concentration and movement designed to cultivate the body and mind. Two courses, each comprising nine 60-minute sessions, are once again planned: on 19 August at 4.30 pm, a continuation course from the first half of the year, and at 5.45 pm, a course for beginners and those returning to the practice. There are still places available on both courses.
From 6.00 pm to 7.30 pm, the focus will be on robbers, judges and ruffians. This Wednesday, 19 August, the ‘History Unplugged – Real & Local’ series of events kicks off its second run. Once a month during the second half of the year, a total of five topics will be explored in talks given by members of the KVHS History Workshop.
On 20 August at 4.00 pm, a journey of imagination and sound is planned for parents and their children. Following this, at 5.30 pm, there is another session for adults offering some time out just for themselves. Hatha yoga is on the programme at 5.15 pm. Over nine 90-minute sessions, the aim is to achieve a balance between body and mind through physical exercises, breathing exercises and meditation. Participants learn to escape stress, become more aware of their bodies and recharge their batteries. At 7.00 pm, the course programme continues with Pilates, consisting of nine 90-minute sessions – a full-body workout designed to strengthen the muscles, primarily of the pelvic floor, abdomen and back. The programme includes strength exercises, stretching and mindful breathing.
Staying fit as you get older is a common aspiration. If the issue is less a lack of time and more a lack of opportunity, the KVHS aims to help with new taster sessions, each running over six sessions: on 24 August, at 2.45 pm, a gymnastics class for the over-70s is planned, offering the chance to meet like-minded people and take part in exercises that improve mobility and build strength, whilst also being fun. A new course, ‘Back Fitness – Join In’, is set to begin on 25 August at 5.30 pm. This course is also about getting to know one another and trying things out, with a particular focus on relaxation, stretching and strengthening exercises. These help to improve the flexibility of the musculoskeletal system as well as the abdominal and back muscles. In the long term, this can help prevent tension and back pain.
Please register in advance! You’ll also find further information on the individual courses there:
