CITY CYCLING 2026

Poster City Cycling-2-kl

The Salzland district is taking part in the nationwide CITY CYCLING campaign for the first time this year. From 14 June to 4 July 2026, all citizens, schools, clubs, companies and employees of the Salzland district are invited to collect as many kilometres by bike as possible.

By taking part, the Salzland district is setting an example for climate-friendly mobility, health and more use of bicycles in everyday life. Every kilometre ridden counts - whether on the way to work, school, shopping or in your free time. Both individuals and teams can take part. Anyone who wants to can set up their own team or join an existing team. The focus is on having fun exercising together, the team spirit and a commitment to a sustainable future.

The CITY CYCLING campaign is supported by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Fahrradfreundlicher Kommunen Sachsen-Anhalt e.V. and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Digital Affairs.

A word
of welcome from patron Markus Bauer

Dear Salzlanders,

The district is taking part for the first time, and as the proud patron of our campaign, I am delighted that this means we can, for the first time, enable everyone to take part in City Cycling 2026 at the same time.

For me, the 21-day joint event with our participating towns in the district is more than just a sporting competition. It unites us when we achieve our best possible results in fair competition. After all, it is my declared goal to make cycling in the entire Salzland district more attractive, safer and more natural in the long term - both in everyday life and in leisure time.

We live in a region that is appreciated by cyclists. Three intersecting long-distance cycle paths and the local network connect our towns and municipalities and symbolise quality of life and gentle tourism in our home region. Because an attractive district needs a modern infrastructure, we are making targeted investments in our network, renovating existing routes, closing gaps and creating new connections for safe journeys to school and convenient connections to work.

When we, who live, work, go to nursery or school in the Salzland district, collect kilometres on as many everyday routes as possible during CITY CYCLING - alone or in teams - we are doing it on and for these routes.

Anyone who uses the STADTRADELN app also helps by providing anonymised traffic data that shows us which routes are popular and where we need to focus our planning efforts. So, join the movement! Change can only be achieved together. I therefore invite you personally: from 14 June onwards, make a conscious effort to cycle one, two or even three times more often.

Which town – Aschersleben, Bernburg, Schönebeck or Staßfurt – will ultimately have the edge in terms of cycling distance? Will the Salzlandkreis pull off a surprise coup straight away? One thing is certain: the nursery, primary school and secondary school with the most active participants will receive a trophy from us, and the participant who cycles the most kilometres individually will receive a Salzland box.

Let’s show together just how keen on cycling the Salzlandkreis is. I look forward to meeting many of you!

Your
District Administrator, Markus Bauer
