Official medical examination at the start of school

The official school enrolment examination is carried out on children approximately 12 to 18 months before they reach school age. According to the School Act of Saxony-Anhalt (§ 37 (2) SchulG LSA; GVBI.LSA p. 68 of 22 February 2013), this is a mandatory examination. From a medical point of view, it serves to determine age-appropriate development.

The examination is also regulated in § 9 para. 2 of the Saxony-Anhalt Health Service Act (GDG LSA; GVBI. LSA p.1023 of 2111.1997) and in § 34 para. 11 of the Infection Protection Act (IFSG; BGBI. I p. 1045 of 20.07.2000)

Parents and schools receive individual advice on possible support programmes.

Please bring the following to the examinations:

• the yellow examination booklet
• the vaccination card
• the completed parental questionnaire

Official medical examination during the school years (3rd and 6th grade)

The medical examination for third and sixth grades is carried out on the basis of the following legislation:

• § Section 9 (2) of the Saxony-Anhalt Health Service Act (GDG LSA; GVBI. LSA p. 1023 of 21 November 1997)
• § Section 38 of the School Act of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (SchulG LSA; GVBI. LSA p. 68 of 22 February 2013)
• Ordinance on school medical examinations of 29 August 2000

The examination is mandatory.

Please bring the following to the examinations:

• the vaccination card
• the completed parental questionnaire

School entry examinations for the year 2025 in the Salzland district

The paediatric and youth medical service of the specialist health service will not be able to examine all of the future pupils in the 2024 examination year for school enrolment in 2025 due to the continuing shortage of doctors until December 2024.

It will not be possible in terms of time to examine the future pupils in the town of Bernburg and its districts who are due to start school in 2025.

The school entry examinations for the 2026/2027 school year will begin in January 2025.

In this exceptional situation, admission to school is possible despite the lack of an initial school examination, provided that the primary schools accepting the child are in favour of this according to their assessment.
