Apply for a certificate in accordance with the Infection Protection Act for activities involving foodstuffs
Service description
Do you produce food, handle it or place it on the market? Do you come into direct or indirect contact with these foods - via utensils such as plates or cutlery? Would you like to work or be employed in kitchens in restaurants, canteens and cafés or in communal catering facilities?
Then you need a certificate from the public health department that is no more than 3 months old. This proves that you have successfully attended an instruction course on infection protection measures.
The aim of the instruction is to enable you to recognise your own symptoms of infectious diseases or those of your employees at an early stage. You should also be able to prevent the spread and contamination of food and recognise when you should no longer carry out your work if you have certain symptoms.
The certificate is issued either by the public health department or by a doctor authorised by the public health department.
Procedure
You take part in an instruction session. After completing the application with your data, you will be shown video sequences. You must then answer questions based on the video sequences.
You can repeat incorrectly answered questions. As soon as you have answered all the questions correctly, you must confirm that you have been instructed in accordance with the Infection Protection Act. You also confirm that you are not aware of any facts that would prohibit you from working.
You then pay the fee. You will receive the certificate either directly on site. Or the health authority will send you the certificate.
Who should I contact?
The local health authority or a doctor authorised by the health authority is responsible.
Prerequisites
- You are working commercially for the first time or are employed in the manufacture, treatment or placing on the market of foodstuffs during which you come into contact with them.
- There are no indications that you have an infectious disease (e.g. salmonellosis, shigellosis).
Which documents are required?
- identity card or
- Passport with possible registration certificate
What deadlines do I have to observe?
Make sure that the certificate is not older than 3 months when you start work.
Example: You start work on 1 September, in which case the certificate may be issued on 1 June at the earliest.
Processing time
The instruction lasts about 30 minutes.
Legal basis
What else should I know?
A specific form of instruction is not prescribed by the Infection Protection Act.
After the instruction, it must be declared in text form that no facts are known for a prohibition of activity.
If there are indications that there are reasons for an impediment to working in the food sector, the certificate may only be issued if a medical certificate proves that the corresponding impediment no longer exists.
