School transport
If your child lives in the Salzlandkreis and attends a school that is not within walking distance, the Salzlandkreis is responsible for transport or reimbursement of costs or cost relief.
The following options are available:
- Issue of a student ticket for the use of public transport services.
- In the case of physical or mental disabilities, transport is provided on exempt school transport.
- Reimbursement/relief of travel costs incurred between home and school.
Prerequisites
Depending on the benefit applied for, the following requirements apply:
Issue of a student ticket for the use of public transport services
- Resident in the Salzlandkreis
- School attended = nearest school
In the case of physical or mental disabilities, transport is provided on exempt school transport
- Resident in the Salzlandkreis
- School attended = nearest school
- Physical/mental disability (proof required)
Reimbursement/relief of out-of-pocket travel costs between home and school
- Resident in the Salzlandkreis
- School attended = nearest school
- Proof of the costs incurred for the journey to school required
Fees
No fees are charged for the application.
Deadlines
If the travel costs for the previous school year are to be reimbursed, please submit the application by 30 September of each year.

What else should I know?
In the following cases, there is an entitlement to cost relief (pro rata reimbursement of travel costs). In these cases, a personal contribution of EUR 100 per school year must be paid:
- Attendance of school years 11 and 12 of a grammar school, attendance of school years 11 to 13 of a comprehensive school, a community school or an independent Waldorf school or
- Attendance at a vocational college, a technical college, a specialised secondary school or a vocational grammar school.
