Juvenile court assistance

Preliminary proceedings

• Examination and initial interviews on the offence with the juvenile/adolescent;
• Providing targeted educational support;
• Examine and encourage the extent to which an out-of-court settlement - e.g. through victim-offender mediation or conflict resolution - can be promoted;
• Preparation of a statement on the development, offence, motivation for the offence and sanction;
• Suggestion regarding the preparation of expert reports with corresponding justification.

Main procedure

• Participation in the court hearing;
• Oral statement on the current situation of the accused and submission of a proposal for the sentence to be imposed at the court hearing.

After the main hearing

• Debriefing of the main hearing with the juvenile/adolescent and their carers;
• Supervise and provide assistance with the court orders and conditions imposed;
• Educational support during imprisonment, detention or placement in a specialised clinic;
• Assistance with the reintegration/re-socialisation of imprisoned young people/adolescents.
• Monitoring and providing assistance with the judicial instructions and requirements that have been set (including performing work, social training courses, traffic education courses, offender-victim mediation)

Other information

• Informal support for young people/adolescents in current crisis situations;
• Organising specialist training courses, further training events and information events.

• Check the reports to see to what extent educational measures have been offered or accepted with regard to the violations of compulsory school attendance and thus the imposition of a fine can be waived;
• Cooperation with schools and school social workers;
• Assistance with placement in alternative forms of schooling.
