Dental emergency service
Description of the
Dentists in Saxony-Anhalt offer their patients emergency consultations throughout the state in the event of sudden dental and oral illnesses. They are held by dentists who keep their practices open by the hour at weekends and on public holidays and are also on call. Whoever provides the emergency service is published in regional newspapers or can be found out via the district rescue control centres and hospital emergency on-call services.
Please note that the dental emergency service is not a normal consultation hour and is also not a practice replacement, such as during holidays. It is set up solely for the treatment of urgent cases that cannot be postponed – for example, pain, purulent inflammation or even post-operative bleeding after dental surgery. The dentist can and may only take measures to eliminate and alleviate pain and to prevent the patient's acute condition from worsening. Every emergency patient should see their regular dentist during their regular consultation hours for further treatment and to complete the therapy that has been started.

The 4 pillars of dental health
Description of the
Pillar 1: Oral hygiene at home
Teeth should be brushed at least twice a day after eating for about 3 minutes. The following applies to children: from the first tooth up to the age of 9, teeth should be brushed with the help of parents. Suitable toothbrushes should be used when brushing teeth. The degree of hardness of the brushes depends on the sensitivity of the gums.
Pillar 2: Strengthening fluorides
Fluorides have a protective effect - they ensure that tooth enamel becomes less sensitive to tooth decay. It is therefore recommended to use fluoride toothpaste daily and fluoride gel once a week from the age of 6. Fluoridated table salt also promotes healthy tooth development.
Children should be given an age-appropriate dose of fluoride.
Pillar 3: A healthy diet
Our diet has a significant influence on dental health. Sweets and sweet drinks should therefore be consumed in moderation. It is recommended that these should ideally be consumed with the main meals rather than snacking more often. The tooth enamel is attacked less often and the tooth is less susceptible to caries.
Pillar 4: Visit to the dentist
Regular visits to the dentist can prevent dental problems. For adults, a check-up twice a year is recommended. For children, once a year from the first tooth.
