Service description
Child day care includes the care and support of your child in a day care centre, such as a crèche, kindergarten or after-school care centre.
Day care centres have the following tasks:

They promote the child's development into a self-determined, independent and socially competent personality.

They support and supplement the upbringing and education in the family.

They help parents to better reconcile working life, child rearing and family care.
The support mandate includes the upbringing, education and care of the child. It relates to the child's social, emotional, physical and mental development. It includes the teaching of guiding values and rules.
The support should be orientated towards the following characteristics of the children:

ethnic origin.
You conclude a childcare contract with the daycare centre provider. In the childcare contract, you specify the scope of care.

Procedure
You should obtain information from the responsible office in good time and register your wishes, for example the scope or location of childcare.
Personal contact or a personal meeting between you and the childcare centre is also useful and usually possible. Many centres offer an introduction to their facility before enrolment or before signing a childcare contract.
Who should I contact?
The districts and independent cities are responsible as local youth welfare organisations. They must provide evidence of free places.

Children up to their 3rd birthday: Your child may go to a crèche.

From their 3rd birthday until they start school: your child can go to a kindergarten.

From school entry until the 14th birthday: Your child may attend an after-school care centre.

The habitual residence of your child is in Saxony-Anhalt.

What fees are incurred?
The costs depend on the facility or type of facility, the age of your child and the scope of childcare chosen.

Your family receives child benefit for at least 2 children.

You pay childcare costs for the eldest child who attends a day care centre.

You pay for every schoolchild who attends an after-school care centre.
As the legal guardian, you must pay the catering costs.

What else should I know?
In Saxony-Anhalt, children are legally entitled to a full-day place in a day-care centre or day-care facility from birth.
The legal entitlement is fulfilled when the local public youth welfare organisation provides the entitled person or the parents with proof of a free place within a reasonable distance.
