Kaufholz is a journalist at the *Volksstimme* and lives in the Jerichower Land region. His book *Death Was on Board: Authentic Crime Cases* was published on 1 February 2026. The true-crime author, together with former public prosecutor Hendrik Weber, recounts ten spectacular cases from Halle and the surrounding area.
The early 1990s: chaos, upheaval, newfound freedom – and new forms of crime. From brothel and taxi murders to the notorious ‘Cannibal of Mansfelder Land’, this book shows how the years following German reunification also reshaped crime – with organised structures, brutal acts of violence and reluctant witnesses: With factual precision, a journalistic eye and sensitivity, the book paints a historical panorama of crime in the post-reunification era: harrowing, gripping and authentic down to the last detail.
Tickets for the Kaufholz reading (price: 10 euros) in September are now available from the district library during opening hours.
