The open day organised by the Health Department and the Department for Veterinary Affairs and Consumer Health Protection of the Salzlandkreis on 19 August 2026 was a resounding success.
Around 350 visitors, including school classes and nursery groups, took the opportunity to find out about the wide range of services offered by the specialist departments and to experience health from a variety of different perspectives. Numerous external organisations took part in the event and, with their information stands and hands-on activities, made the day an exciting experience for all age groups taking part.
The Health Advisory Service provided information through specialist talks as well as practical, real-life examples on topics such as
- The responsibilities of a public health authority
- Climate adaptation and heat protection measures
- Health promotion and care
- Alcohol and drug abuse, addictive behaviour
- Protection against sexually transmitted infections
- Dental health
- Blood and organ donation
- Powers of attorney for healthcare and services for people with mental health conditions
- Vision, hearing and lung function tests
- Clean drinking water
- First aid
Within the Veterinary Affairs and Consumer Health Protection Department, topics such as
- Laboratory diagnostic tests
- Sensory assessment of foodstuffs
- Safe handling of mushrooms you have picked yourself, with guidance from a mushroom expert
