Bernburg/Wedlitz. The Salzlandkreis district authority has upgraded District Road 2101 from the outskirts of Wedlitz towards Nienburg as far as the first country lane. On Friday afternoon, after two months of construction, District Administrator Markus Bauer cut the ribbon to mark the road’s opening to traffic, having invited the Mayor of Wedlitz, Yvonne Lehmann, and Susan Falke, Mayor of Nienburg, to the ceremony. Also present at the official ceremony were representatives of the construction company Jaeger Spezial- und Tiefbau GmbH + Co KG Bernburg and the commissioned planning firm Magdeburg Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH.
Now completed as planned, the 340 metre long section on the open road had to be fundamentally upgraded and widened to 6.50 metres in accordance with current standards. The asphalt surface of the carriageway showed numerous signs of damage due to the 2013 floods and was very narrow. Two trees in the old verges had to be removed. To compensate, 20 new ones were planted elsewhere, appropriately along the district road between Schackenthal and Schackstedt. All of this was planned and repaired accordingly, with a replacement under nature conservation law, with final asphalt on around 2,200 square metres of road surface and with a total investment of 656,000 euros. The Salzland district is financing this measure from the Saxony-Anhalt state funding programme for the repair of flood damage and therefore without the need for its own funds to upgrade its transport infrastructure.
Markus Bauer says: "Every piece of road that we repair and modernise counts. Our goal is to create a modern, attractive residential and business location with the corresponding infrastructure in the rural area between Magdeburg and Halle, which will be recognised and accepted. So thank you to everyone who supports us on our journey." His personal thanks at the meeting near Wedlitz went to the two regional company contract partners for their professional work and to all those involved for their good cooperation with the district's own specialised service for district and economic development and tourism. "Measures like this, which are based on our future strategy, benefit the towns, the local businesses and residents and ultimately the entire region."
Head of specialist services Tilo Wechselberger, who is responsible for road construction measures at the Salzland district, among other things, provided details of the now completed sub-project, as the next one is still to come. For the remaining section of the flood-damaged district road 2101 in the further course up to the state road 73, his department can bring another 700,000 euros in funding from the state onto the road. Then, when it is clear when and where exactly in the section in question the State Flood Protection Agency will realise the planned relocation of the dyke. And then the Salzland district will have repaired all of the flood damage from 2013 on its district roads with the earmarked funding from the state.
