Bernburg/Schönebeck. This year’s Jewish Weeks in Schönebeck have already begun with the travelling exhibition by the Saxony-Anhalt Memorial Sites Foundation at the Salzlandmuseum, as a stand against racism, anti-Semitism and right-wing extremism. Spanning more than 50 pages in the event brochure, the Salzlandkreis and local organisations present a wide range of other events taking place between 3 September and 21 November.

This is already the seventh time that the organisers have extended an invitation of this kind to discover the diversity of Jewish life and to stand together in support of respect and solidarity. Visitors can once again look forward to a varied programme featuring culture and cuisine, learning and dialogue, and local history.
Here are a few examples: The travelling exhibition mentioned earlier, ‘Marked and Persecuted as Jews: Jewish Identities and Sites of Nazi Atrocities in Saxony-Anhalt’, can be seen at the Salzlandmuseum until the end of the campaign period, on 21 November.
The talk entitled ‘The Rise and Fall of the Conitzer Jewish Merchant Family’, to be held on 7 November at the SCHALOM-Haus, is a key part of this year’s programme of events and, in the organisers’ view, highly recommended.
Opportunities for interaction and lively dialogue include, for example, the rousing concert by the Magdeburg band ‘Foyal’ on 17 November at the Salzlandmuseum, as well as cooking and tasting evenings at the Schönebeck branch of the district adult education centre, offering insights into Jewish dietary laws.
Further events, organised by the town of Schönebeck, the Rückenwind Association’s Education Centre, the SCHALOM House and the Julius-Schniewindhaus Association, also offer fascinating insights into Jewish life, bringing it to life in the here and now.
Posters featuring QR codes for individual events provide further information.
Programme leaflets are available at the district administration offices, at the Bernburger Haus on Karlsplatz, in Schönebeck at the KVHS on Tischlerstraße and at the Salzlandmuseum, as well as at the Rückenwind e.V. education centre, at the Schniewind-Haus e.V., at the SCHALOM-Haus, at Schönebeck Town Hall, and at the tourist information centres ‘Am Markt’ and ‘Am Soleturm’.
Further information is also available from the town of Schönebeck.
