The workshop ‘Caught in the Net!’ in the visitor area of the permanent exhibition ‘LebensStröme’ introduces visitors to life along and in the river. The session lasts two hours. During this time, participants discover rivers and floodplains as habitats for animals, learn about these animals – such as the beaver – and find out how these important natural areas can be protected. Afterwards, they get to create their own versions of various river dwellers – each one unique, as they are made from used or discarded materials. After all, upcycling turns old things into something new, thereby helping to protect the environment.

The Secret of Colours: Painting with Avocado and Moor
In collaboration with the Schöpfrad artists’ collective from Aschersleben, the Salzland Museum aims to reveal, in October, the secret of how colours are extracted from nature – from plants, stone and earth – and used for painting. Most people are no doubt aware that onion skins and red cabbage can be used to dye Easter eggs. But participants in the workshop at the Salzlandmuseum will learn how ink is made from peat and avocado.
The activity is open to everyone and suitable for all age groups, with no prior knowledge required. No booking is necessary.
