Bernburg. Whether as the heart and soul of the neighbourhood, in a sports club, in youth work or with the fire brigade, behind every strong voluntary effort there is often a woman who rolls up her sleeves and gets stuck in.
Women in the Salzlandkreis plant flower strips to protect nature, save animals through their voluntary work at animal shelters, help older people navigate the online world as digital mentors, or play an active role in the emergency services, disaster relief and the medical sector. They create handicrafts in creative and craft groups for a good cause. They collect food for the food bank, offer comfort through the telephone counselling service, or help shape our children’s future as reading mentors. As ‘Green Ladies’, women provide bedside care. In hospices, they provide support during the final stages of life. As members of rural women’s associations and local heritage societies, they preserve our traditions; they help immigrants integrate or lead self-help groups.
The list is long, and it is often these unassuming, quiet, small gestures in everyday life that make our community strong and a great place to live. These are carried out by women who are therefore put in the spotlight at the annual awards ceremony in the Salzlandkreis.
The ‘Salzlandfrau 2027’ honorary award will be presented next year on 8 March in the Dr Tolberg Hall in Schönebeck-Bad Salzelmen. It is awarded in the following categories:
- Youth engagement,

- Life’s work.
The campaign is organised by the Salzlandkreis district and the towns of Schönebeck (Elbe), Staßfurt, Aschersleben and Bernburg (Saale), together with their equality officers. Alongside the organisers, the Salzlandsparkasse, Salzlandküche, the municipal utilities of Schönebeck, Staßfurt, Aschersleben and Bernburg, and Energie Mittelsachsen are supporting the event as sponsors.

- Every citizen of the Salzlandkreis

Self-nominations and nominations of family members are expressly prohibited.
What formal criteria must be met?
- Place of residence: The nominated woman must be resident in the Salzlandkreis district.
- Length: The justification should be detailed and clear, but should not exceed two A4 pages.

- Supporting documents: We expressly encourage you to include up-to-date references (e.g. letters of support from third parties or newspaper articles).
- Confidentiality: The proposed candidate should not be informed of their nomination in advance. Documents submitted will not be returned following the procedure.
Who decides on the award?
An independent jury comprising representatives from the business community, institutions and public authorities in the Salzlandkreis will assess all entries. The jury will also determine the category for the award. It will make its decision to the best of its knowledge and belief, and its decision is final. All nominations and data will be treated in the strictest confidence. No information regarding the selection process will be disclosed to third parties.
