Groß Börnecke. Ground-breaking ceremony attended by guests to mark the start of work on the extension of Bahnhofstraße in Groß Börnecke: On Monday, District Administrator Markus Bauer, in the presence of Local Mayor Ethel Muschalle-Höllbach and Hendrik Mahrholdt, Mayor of the town of Hecklingen, to which Groß Börnecke belongs, gave the go-ahead to the contractor, Strabag AG, Magdeburg branch.
Representatives of the engineering firm J. Lübbers, which the Salzland district had commissioned with the planning and construction supervision, were also present at the official start of construction. The Groß Börnecker Bahnhofstraße is part of the district road 1302. 678,000 euros will be spent from the district budget on the major upgrade according to current cost estimates - almost 500,000 euros for the road, a good 130,000 euros for the ancillary facilities and around 50,000 euros for planning services.
"The Salzland district is continuing to invest in its infrastructure and can now implement a project for inner-city road renovation that has been prioritised for years with state funding. The residential and business location is being upgraded," says District Administrator Markus Bauer, pleased with the progress that is now taking effect in Groß Börnecke. "And unlike what was originally planned for this joint project and agreed a year ago, the town of Hecklingen does not have to make its own contribution to the costs of its ancillary facilities, the pavement to be raised and the trench culverts." According to the latest estimate, this would be a good 92,000 euros, which would relieve the town's coffers. To justify this, the district administrator refers to the agreement reached in the district council in June, with which the Salzland district and the town of Hecklingen had settled their outstanding district contribution disputes since 2017. One of the negotiated points is the district's waiver of the town's fixed cost contribution for the K 1302 - carriageway renewal on Bahnhofstraße Groß Börnecke.
The dilapidated local thoroughfare on the district road, from the junction with the K 1306 to the level crossing at the end of the village, is now being fundamentally renewed over a length of around 340 metres, with an asphalt surface and a total of 14 road drains for drainage as well as the adapted, almost 200-metre-long pavement. This will eliminate the considerable damage that has become evident over the long period of use: Lowering and breaking up of the carriageway, deficits in the load-bearing capacity of the road because it was repeatedly opened and closed for laid supply and disposal lines. Above all, however, the surface water, which was inadequately drained away, caused extensive damage to the carriageway.
"Construction is now being carried out in two sections, with a probable winter break," says Tilo Wechselberger, the responsible district service manager, providing information on the further organisational schedule. "The first section stretches from the railway crossing to the access road to the town's building yard and should be completed before Christmas. From there, it will continue next year to the district road 1306. The construction work should be completed by July 2026 at the latest. Until traffic can flow properly again at this point, we ask residents and all drivers for their understanding and consideration."
