Markus Bauer
About the person
As the elected district administrator, Markus Bauer not only heads the district administration and is responsible for around 980 employees, state tasks and implementing the resolutions of the district council. He also represents the interests of the Salzland district externally, always in dialogue with companies, associations, organisations and authorities at all levels.
"I am a child of the homeland"
- Born in Calbe in 1971, grew up in Nienburg (Saale), where he lives with his family; married, three daughters, Catholic; member of the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany)
- Trades training, professional development, 12 years in the German Armed Forces, degree in business law and international trade
- First elected honorary mayor in his home town of Nienburg (Saale) in 2001, member of the district council since 2004 (first Bernburg, then also Salzlandkreis), full-time mayor in 2009
- Elected District Administrator of the Salzland district in 2014, re-elected in 2021 with 65 per cent of the vote.
- Vice President of the Saxony-Anhalt Association of Counties since 2021
- Member of the Innovation Ring of the German County Association
