Applicants with residence in Germany

Since 1 April 2015, the following requirements apply for the allocation of a short-term licence plate in accordance with Section 42 of the Vehicle Registration Ordinance (FZV):

• Residence or company headquarters or the location of the vehicle (proof by means of purchase contract or invoice is required) must be in the Salzlandkreis.
• Vehicle must be known to the registration authority (e.g. presentation of ZB II)
• A valid general inspection (HU) is available (if no valid HU is available, the allocation is only for the Salzlandkreis or neighbouring registration districts)
• Vehicle must not be registered (for vehicles with seasonal licence plates only possible outside the registration period)

Required documents:

• Valid identity card or passport with original registration certificate (not older than 1 month); in the case of admission by an authorised representative, only the copy of the identity card or copy of the passport with original registration certificate with the corresponding declaration

• For companies, extract from the commercial register (at least the registered office, name and representation regulations must be shown) and business registration plus power of attorney and a copy of the identity card of a person authorised to represent according to the commercial register or, in the case of sole proprietorships, business registration
• Insurance confirmation - proof by means of electronic insurance confirmation (eVB) for a short-term licence plate
• Power of attorney, if applicable (the submission of a direct debit declaration is not required here)

Applicants without residence in Germany

Applicants who are not resident in Germany but are EU citizens have the option of nominating an authorised recipient to the registration authority in accordance with Section 46 (2) FZV. Only then is the allocation of the short-term licence plate permitted.

Required documents:

• Valid identity card or passport with original registration certificate (not older than 1 month); in the case of admission by an authorised representative, only the copy of the identity card or copy of the passport with original registration certificate with the corresponding declaration

• Identity card of the authorised recipient (original)
• Receiving authorisation

• For companies, extract from the commercial register (at least the registered office, name and representation regulations must be shown) and business registration plus power of attorney and a copy of the identity card of a person authorised to represent according to the commercial register or, in the case of sole proprietorships, business registration
• Insurance confirmation - proof by means of electronic insurance confirmation (eVB) for a short-term licence plate
• Power of attorney, if applicable (the submission of a direct debit declaration is not required here)

• valid identity card or passport
• Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
• Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
• Licence plates - if vehicle is still registered
• Proof of a valid general inspection by means of an inspection report (an entry only on the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document) by the inspection centre is not sufficient)
• Insurance confirmation card for export licence plates (Annex 11 No. 3 FZV)
• Direct debit authorisation for vehicle tax

• Power of attorney if an authorised representative is to collect the documents

Note: The location of the vehicle in the Salzlandkreis district must be proven by means of an invoice or proof of ownership. Furthermore, the vehicle must also be presented to the registration authority!

A classic car licence plate can only be issued if the vehicle is at least 30 years old (after the date of the first registration, date of manufacture).

Required documents:

• Valid identity card or passport with original registration certificate (not older than 1 month); in the case of admission by an authorised representative, only the copy of the identity card or copy of the passport with original registration certificate with the corresponding declaration

• Certificate of good conduct in accordance with § 30 Para. 5 BZRG (application to the responsible municipality/city, valid for max. 3 months from date of issue)
• Information from the driving aptitude register (FAER) (so-called points register at the KBA) from the applicant or the person authorised to represent the applicant (not older than 3 months)

• Written application with justification
• Proof of ownership
• Existing vehicle documents (vehicle registration document or similar)
• Expertise according to § 23 StVZO
• Insurance confirmation - proof by means of electronic insurance confirmation (eVB)
• Direct debit authorisation for vehicle tax

• Power of attorney if an authorised representative is to collect the documents

Extension

For an extension, an informal application, a certificate of good conduct, information from the driving aptitude register and a new electronic insurance confirmation for retrieval (evBzumAbruf) must be submitted at least three weeks before the licence plate expires.

A historic licence plate can only be issued if the vehicle is at least 30 years old (after the date of the first registration).

• Valid identity card or passport with original registration certificate (not older than 1 month); in the case of admission by an authorised representative, only the copy of the identity card or copy of the passport with original registration certificate with the corresponding declaration

• Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
• Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
• Proof of a valid general inspection by means of an inspection report (an entry only on the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document) by the inspection centre is not sufficient)
• Expertise according to § 23 StVZO
• Insurance confirmation - proof by means of electronic insurance confirmation (eVB)
• Direct debit authorisation for vehicle tax

• Power of attorney if an authorised representative is to collect the documents
