The Salzland district as a TOP residential location

A kick-off event was held in April 2025, which was attended by municipal representatives and representatives of the municipal housing companies. The topic gave rise to an intensive discussion, the results of which were subsequently analysed.

The representatives were asked how they would characterise the Salzländer, which locations are exemplary in terms of business, which leisure activities are available in the individual municipalities, which ideas for a culinary product predominate and which typical festivals are recommended. Last but not least, residential projects with an exemplary character were illustrated.

Analysis of the survey

The evaluation of the responses from the 38 participants showed that the people of Salzkammergut describe themselves as friendly and warm-hearted. Down-to-earth and attached to their homeland, as well as athletic, innovative and committed, were further characteristics cited by the respondents.

The Salzland region was described as central, close to nature and rural, relaxed and steeped in history.

For the economy, the research locations of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and the IPK in Gatersleben were repeatedly mentioned in the area of innovation. Sugar production and agriculture as well as salt mining as the basis for the chemical industry with its locations, mechanical engineering and aluminium processing as a supplier for the automotive industry are strongly anchored in the minds of those surveyed. However, data and energy storage with supply from renewable energies are also seen as exemplary for the location.

In the area of leisure, river landscapes with opportunities for paddling, cycle paths, numerous lakes, and beaches and outdoor swimming pools played a central role. Popular sports with their clubs, club life and what they offer, as well as initiatives and events in the cultural sector, are also part of the survey.

The most popular festivals in the district include the "Klosterweihnacht" in Bernburg, the "Ascania Horse Festival" in Aschersleben, the "Wöhlfest" in Tarthun and the "Bollenfest" in Calbe. But the "Plum Cake Market" in Großmühlingen and Plötzkau, the "Robber and Whitsun Festival" in Könnern, the "Dickschiff Festival" and fir "Elbebadetag" in Barby or the "Light Festival" in Schönebeck have also been mentioned.
