General information:

To determine your entitlement to educational support, you must answer all the questions on the forms.

Please enclose the necessary receipts and supporting documents. This is the only way the Office for Educational Support can process your application quickly and make the payments on time.

BAföG

BAföG is financial support from the state for living expenses for young people and young adults who are completing their initial training at vocational schools and colleges.

Pupils who wish to obtain a vocational qualification or a secondary school leaving certificate can receive BAföG. However, those who attend a general education school only receive BAföG if they cannot live with their parents, for example if their qualification cannot be obtained in the neighbourhood.

Educational support can also be applied for when studying at academies and universities. However, the relevant student services organisation is responsible here.

AFBG

The AFBG, also known as the Aufstiegs-BAföG or Meister-BAföG, provides financial support if you are preparing for a further education qualification that will enable you to advance your career and obtain qualifications above the level of a skilled worker, journeyman's examination or vocational qualification. There is no age limit for funding under the Upgrading Training Assistance Act. It is possible to apply for grants to cover examination and course fees, as well as living expenses for full-time courses.
