If you would like to study in Germany and have not yet secured a place at university, you can apply for a residence permit whilst you look for one.
You may be granted a residence permit if you meet the academic and language requirements for commencing a degree programme. It is also possible for you to fulfil these requirements whilst your residence permit is valid in Germany.
You must cover your living expenses and health insurance for the duration of your stay without having to rely on public benefits.
You may take up employment for up to 20 hours a week during your stay. Trial periods of up to two weeks are permitted.
If you have not yet reached the age of 18, you will need the consent of your legal guardians for your stay in order to apply for a degree programme.

You should apply for a residence permit no later than 8 weeks before your current visa or residence permit expires.
Application deadline: 6 weeks
The residence permit is issued for a maximum period of 9 months.
Period of validity: 9 months

- Appeal against the decision of the immigration authority within one month of notification
- Action before the court named in the notice of objection if the objection is not upheld
