Applying for a residence permit to seek employment for skilled workers with vocational training
Service description
You can obtain a residence permit to seek employment for skilled workers if you have completed a recognised vocational training programme in Germany. A recognised vocational training programme is one in which you have completed training in a state-recognised or similarly regulated occupation. The training must have lasted at least two years. If you completed your vocational training abroad, the equivalence of your qualification to a German, recognised vocational training programme must be confirmed by the relevant recognition body (e.g. the Chamber of Industry and Commerce).
If you wish to work in a regulated profession, the necessary licence to practise must already have been granted or promised at the time your residence permit for job-seeking is issued. Regulated professions are occupational activities where taking up or practising the profession is subject to the possession of specific professional qualifications under statutory or administrative provisions. Professions regulated in Germany include, for example, doctors, nurses, solicitors, teachers, nursery teachers and engineers.
If you are already in Germany, you may be granted a residence permit to seek employment if, immediately prior to this, you held a residence permit for the purpose of employment or a residence permit for the purpose of an EU study-related work placement.
With a residence permit for the purpose of seeking employment, you may undertake trial work for which you are qualified for up to ten hours per week.
The residence permit is granted for up to six months.
