Residence permit for the purpose of employment where the applicant has extensive practical professional knowledge: applying for an extension
Service description
The residence permit to take up employment requiring advanced practical professional skills was granted for a fixed period. You may apply to have your residence permit extended if your employment is to continue beyond the period of validity of your residence permit.
Apply to the Foreigners’ Registration Office responsible for your place of residence to extend your residence permit no later than eight weeks before it expires.
The same conditions apply to renewal as to the initial grant. In particular, you should still be working in the IT sector and be able to demonstrate that you are earning a certain level of salary.
The Federal Employment Agency gave its approval when your residence permit was first issued. If the approval has expired, it must be renewed in order for your residence permit to be extended.
You may have been required to attend an integration course when your residence permit was first granted. If this is the case, it must be taken into account when renewing your residence permit. If you have not yet attended an integration course, the Foreigners’ Registration Office may reject your application to renew your residence permit. If you have not yet completed the integration course, your residence permit will generally only be extended for one year at a time until you have successfully completed the course or provided evidence that you have otherwise integrated into social and community life.
In the event of an extension, your residence permit will once again be granted for a fixed period. The duration of this fixed period will depend on the duration of your employment contract or the period of validity of the approval granted by the Federal Employment Agency.
As a rule, the residence permit cannot be extended if this was already ruled out when the residence permit was issued or last extended.
