Apply for a special permit to carry weapons at public events
Service description
Weapons are generally prohibited at public events.
Public events include, for example:
- public entertainment
- Folk festivals
- Sporting events
- Trade fairs
- Exhibitions
- Markets
It is irrelevant whether there is an admission charge for the event.
If, for specific reasons, you nevertheless wish to carry a weapon, you may apply to the relevant authority for a special permit.
You can only obtain a special permit if you
- demonstrate the necessary reliability and suitability,
- in the case of a firearm, hold a firearms licence,
- who are reliant on a firearm during the event and
- do not endanger public safety and order with your weapon.
Exemptions may be granted, for example, in the following cases:
- for the armed protection of politicians and other individuals at particular risk at events attended by large numbers of people
- for securing cash and valuables during events
- for shooting festivals, historical parades and other traditional events where it can be demonstrated that the weapons form part of the tradition. In such cases, the chairperson of the traditional customs association applies for a special licence
You must carry the exemption permit with you at the event and present it on request.
