If you have a licence as a driving instructor, you can extend this to include categories A, CE and DE.
- With the BE category, you can work as a driving instructor for passenger cars. It authorises you to teach the following classes:
- B
- BE
- L
- Class A entitles you to work as a motorbike driving instructor. It authorises you to teach the following classes:
- AM
- A1
- A2
- A
- With the CE category, you can work as a lorry driving instructor. It authorises you to teach the following classes:
- C1
- C1E
- C
- CE
- T
- With the DE class, you can work as a bus driving instructor. It authorises you to teach the following classes:
- D1
- D1E
- D
- EN
To be able to extend your licence, you must have held a category B licence for at least 3 years and, depending on the driving instructor licence you want, a category A2, CE or D licence for at least 2 years.

Prerequisites
- You are at least 21 years old.
- You are mentally and physically fit.
- They are professionally and pedagogically suitable.
- There are no reasons that make you appear unreliable for the job.
- You have completed vocational training or an equivalent qualification.
- You have a driving licence for the category you wish to teach.
- You have successfully completed your training as a driving instructor in the last 3 years.
- You have sufficient knowledge of German.
Which documents are required?

- medical and ophthalmological certificate confirming your suitability as a driving instructor (maximum 1 year old)
- Driving licence (copy)
- Proof of completion of vocational training, Abitur or Fachholschulreife
- Training certificate as a driving instructor
- Certificate from the training driving school (only for category BE)
- Certificate of good conduct (not older than 3 months)
