Change vehicle data or owner data

• Your owner data or vehicle data has changed.
• You have no motor vehicle tax debts of EUR 5.00 or more. This also includes late payment penalties, interest and late payment penalties.

• if available: completed application forms
• Valid identification document, for example an identity card or passport of the vehicle owner; if the passport is presented, a current registration certificate;
• Valid electronic insurance confirmation (eVB), if applicable
• Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
• Valid general inspection and, if applicable, a safety inspection
• If applicable, account details or SEPA mandate for collecting the vehicle tax of the holder

Depending on which change is made to the vehicle or owner data, you must also submit different documents:

• Move to another registration district - vehicle owner remains the same:
  • with a new licence plate:
    • Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
    • Old licence plates for cancelling the stamp stickers
    • If already available: new (desired) licence plate reserved in advance
    • If already available: new licence plates Vehicle licence plates
  • while retaining the previous licence plate number:
    • Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
    • Notification that the previous licence plate number is to be retained
• Move to another registration district - vehicle owner changes:
  • with a new licence plate:
    • Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
    • Old licence plates for cancelling the stamp stickers
    • If already available: new (desired) licence plate reserved in advance

If the following vehicle data changes: Vehicle class in accordance with Annex XXIX of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations, change in engine capacity, rated power, fuel type or energy source:

If represented by a third person:

• Written authorisation and original identification document of the holder
• If applicable: identity card or passport of the authorised person

Depending on the individual case, the vehicle licensing authority may request further or other evidence from you.

• Contradiction

• Search for the relevant registration office/internet-based vehicle registration (i-Kfz) by postcode and search terms
• Information on Internet-based vehicle registration on the website of the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV)

• If the owner data or vehicle data of a car, motorbike or trailer changes, notification to the vehicle registration authority is required
• Holder data changes when the name changes, for example due to marriage or relocation
• Vehicle data, i.e. technical data, changes, for example:
  • Change of vehicle class
  • Change in cubic capacity, rated power, fuel type or energy source
  • Increase in the maximum speed determined by the design
  • Reduction of the maximum speed determined by the design if this is relevant to the driving licence or registration
  • Changes to the authorised axle loads, the total mass, the vertical load or the trailer load
  • Increase in vehicle dimensions, except for cars and motorbikes
  • Changing the number of seats or standing places in buses and coaches
  • Changes to exhaust or noise values, insofar as they affect vehicle tax or traffic bans
• Depending on the change, the registration authority issues new registration documents and new stamp stickers for licence plate changes
