Request information from the contaminated sites register
Service description
Sites suspected of being contaminated include former waste disposal sites and former industrial sites where there is a suspicion of harmful soil contamination or other risks to individuals or the general public. Former sites are plots of land where facilities have been decommissioned and other plots where substances hazardous to the environment have been handled. Former waste disposal sites are decommissioned waste disposal facilities and other plots of land where waste has been treated, stored or deposited. The competent authority maintains a contaminated sites register in which sites suspected of contamination are recorded. The landowner or other persons may obtain information about potential contaminated sites. To this end, an application for information from the contaminated sites register may be submitted to the competent authority. To speed up the process when providing information to persons who are not themselves the owners of the property in question, it is advisable to obtain the owner’s prior consent. Otherwise, the authority must, as a rule, first consult the parties concerned.
Procedure
To find out whether there is any official information regarding contaminated sites or harmful soil alterations relating to a plot of land, you can submit a request for information from the contaminated sites register. The relevant application form, containing the necessary information, will be forwarded to the competent authority responsible for the area in which the property in question is situated. You will receive a notification from the authority stating whether the property in question is registered in the Contaminated Sites Register and – following a check of the access criteria – what information is recorded there. As the Contaminated Sites Register is continuously updated, this information reflects the current status. Subsequent changes may be made.
