Weapons and ammunition Application for authorisation to maintain customs
Service description
If you are a traditional marksman or markswoman and require weapons and ammunition to maintain your traditions, a need to acquire and possess them is recognised. The licence is limited to single-shot long guns and up to three repeating long guns and the ammunition intended for them. As proof, you need a certificate from the customary shooting association that you need these weapons to maintain the custom. An indication of custom is a long-standing tradition and practice. The use of weapons may only be a necessary part of the cultivation of customs and not the predominant purpose.
Procedure
You can obtain authorisation as follows:
- You make an application and submit the required documents
- The required documents will be checked and you may have to submit additional documents,
- Your age, your reliability, your personal suitability, your expertise and your need are checked (Section 4 (1) numbers 1 to 4 WaffG)
- the decision under firearms law is made.

Prerequisites
- You have reached the age of 18.
- You are reliable within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
- You are personally suitable within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
- You are competent within the meaning of the Weapons Act.
- You have a need within the meaning of § 16 of the Weapons Act.

- Proof of your expertise
- Proof of your need through proof of the customary shooting association
- Proof that your weapons and/or ammunition are stored safely

Administration fee: EUR 50

Notification of purchase and transfer: within 2 weeks
