Apply for a replacement driving licence
Service description
If your driving licence has been lost or destroyed, for example due to theft, illegibility or loss, you will need a new driving licence unless you renounce your driving licence. If you do not report the loss of your driving licence immediately and apply for a replacement document, you are committing an administrative offence.
If your name has changed, you do not need to have a new driving licence issued. However, it may be useful to be in possession of an EU driving licence with up-to-date information, especially when driving abroad. If you wish to change the name on your driving licence, you will be issued with a new card driving licence on request.
Who should I contact?
You can apply for a replacement driving licence from the driving licence authority responsible for your district or city.
What fees are incurred?
- The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
- If the driving licence is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.
