Service description
With the AM driving licence category, you can drive two- and three-wheeled mopeds and four-wheeled light motor vehicles.
With driving licence category A1, you can ride motorbikes with an engine capacity of up to 125 cubic centimetres and up to 11 kW of power.
With driving licence category A2, you can drive motorbikes with a power output of up to 35 kW and no more than 70 kW.
With driving licence category A, you can drive motorbikes and three-wheeled motor vehicles.
The AM, A1, A2 and A driving licence categories are issued for an unlimited period.
Simplified requirements apply for upgrading from A1 to A2 and A2 to A.
To obtain the driving licence extension, you must pass a theoretical and a practical test.

Prerequisites
- You must have a driving licence.
- You must have your main place of residence in the Federal Republic of Germany.
- The minimum age for category AM is 15 years.
- The minimum age for category A1 is 16 years.
- The minimum age for category A2 is 18 years.
- The minimum age for category A is 24 years for motorbikes with direct access and 21 years for three-wheeled motor vehicles with a power output of more than 15 kW.
Which documents are required?
- Valid identity card or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
- Application for extension of driving licence
- a biometric photo in accordance with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (size 45x35 mm)
- Eye test certificate (not older than two years)
- Proof of first aid training (if not already provided to the driving licence authority)

- If applicable, a copy of the file card from the last issuing authority (if authority is different)
- Details of the driving school
What fees are incurred?
The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
If the driving licence is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
The practical test must be taken within 12 months of passing the theory test. Otherwise, the theoretical examination loses its validity.

- Driving licence category A2 entitles the holder to drive motorbikes with a power output of up to 35 kW, a power-to-weight ratio of no more than 0.2 kW/kg and an output power of no more than 70 kW
- With category A driving licence, the applicant can drive motorbikes and three-wheeled motor vehicles
