Applying for a new driving licence
Service description
If your driving licence has been revoked, you can reapply for it after the expiry of any period of suspension. In the application process, you must prove that your ability and suitability to drive motor vehicles has been restored.
The driving licence is issued for an unlimited period.
Driving licences for categories C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE and D1E are issued for a limited period.

Which documents are required?
- Valid identity card or passport (with current registration certificate if applicable)
- Current biometric photo (size 45x35 mm, portrait format, frontal view)
- Eye test certificate (not older than 2 years)
- Proof of participation in a first aid training course
For the application for driving licence categories C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE or D1E additionally:
- medical certificate
For the application for driving licence categories D, D1, DE, D1E additionally:
- Certificate of good conduct
What fees are incurred?
The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
If the driving licence is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.
What deadlines do I have to observe?
You can apply for a new driving licence at the earliest 6 months before the end of the suspension period.

What else should I know?
- Only the driving licence categories specified in the Driving Licence Ordinance can be reissued; if necessary, the categories of the withdrawn driving licence will be converted.
- The new licence can only be issued to the same extent as before the withdrawal.
- In individual cases, it may be necessary for you to take the driving licence test again.
