Become a district chimney sweep

• Once you have submitted the application and all the documents are complete, the competent body will check whether you fulfil all the requirements.
• If you fulfil all the requirements, the competent authority will rank the applicants and make a selection between them.
• The appointment is then made ex officio and must be made public.
• It is then notified to the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control for entry in the chimney sweep register.

In order to be appointed as a district chimney sweep, you must fulfil the legal requirements for the independent practice of the chimney sweep trade and prove your suitability, qualification and professional performance on the basis of the application documents submitted.

The competent authority shall specify in the invitation to tender which documents must be submitted. In particular, the competent authority may require the submission of the following documents:

• Curriculum vitae in tabular form, containing detailed information on previous professional training and professional career
• Proof of fulfilment of the requirements for entry in the chimney sweep trade register
• Certificates with grades for the journeyman's examination and the master craftsman's examination or equivalent qualifications; in the case of a professional qualification acquired in another Member State of the European Union or a signatory state to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland, the documents and certificates to be submitted in accordance with Section 6 of the EU/EEA Crafts Ordinance
• Proof of previous chimney sweep activities and job-related further and advanced training measures

• Declaration of consent to obtain information from the central trade register
• a current declaration that you are medically fit to take over a district and carry out chimney sweeping work
• Declaration as to whether the applicant has been convicted by a criminal court within the last twelve months, whether criminal proceedings are pending or whether a pending investigation is known
• Declaration of consent to obtain a police clearance certificate
• Declaration as to whether the applicant
  • is or was the owner of a district,
  • the supervisory authority to which the sweeping district belongs,
  • whether the appointment has been cancelled or revoked in the last 3 years prior to publication of the invitation to tender or whether supervisory measures have been taken or initiated during this time in accordance with Section 21 (3) SchfHwG and
  • that an existing order will be cancelled in the event of a positive decision on this application

• a declaration of consent from current or former district holders authorising them to request the personnel file from the authority to which the applicant is or was appointed for inspection
• written and signed declaration that no other application has been submitted to any other authority, and if so, to which other authority
• if several districts or the status of an authorised district chimney sweep is put out to tender: information on the ranking of preferred districts
• Proof of employment in a company individually certified in accordance with the "Fachbetrieb des Schornsteinfegerhandwerks" seal of approval or comparable; if applicable, subdivided into employment in own company and employment in a third-party company. The 3 years prior to publication of the advertisement are decisive, whereby only full years as a self-employed person or full months as an employee are taken into account. Unemployment periods of up to 2 months are fully recognised for employees
• Proof of additional qualifications, e.g. business economist of the trade, certified business economist according to HwO, building energy consultant, fire protection technician, completed professional university degree (e.g.: supply engineering; environmental engineering, technical building equipment), training authorisation in the chimney sweep trade
• Professional training in the last 7 calendar years prior to publication of the call for applications and in the year of the call for applications

In the state of Saxony-Anhalt, copies of the following documents must be submitted:

1. a written application containing the surname, first names, address, telephone number and electronic contact details of the applicant and signed,

2. the curriculum vitae in tabular form, containing precise and complete information on previous professional training, professional career and all qualifications suitable for the activity as an authorised district chimney sweep, and stating the start and end of the respective activities; proof of qualifications and degrees must be provided,

3. proof of fulfilment of the requirements for entry in the Register of Craftsmen,

4. the certificates of the journeyman's examination and the master craftsman's examination or equivalent qualifications; in the case of a professional qualification acquired in another Member State of the European Union or a signatory state to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland, the documents and certificates that must be submitted in accordance with the EU/EEA Craft Trades Regulation.

5. evidence of previous chimney sweep activities as well as product-neutral professional training and further training measures, the duration of which must be proven to be at least six hours,

6. information and proof of periods of absence (illness, leave of absence, parental leave, etc.) during the last seven years of professional activity, provided that the actual chimney sweep activity after the journeyman's examination was interrupted by at least 15 per cent in total during these years,

7. in the case of applicants who have acquired their professional qualification in another Member State of the European Union or a contracting state of the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland, a certificate from the competent authority of the home state that the exercise of the profession has not been prohibited due to unreliability; if such a certificate is not issued in the home state, the applicant may replace it by submitting a certificate stating that he has made an affidavit or solemn declaration to the competent authority of the home state,

8. a signed self-declaration stating whether any criminal convictions have been handed down against the bidder within the twelve months prior to publication of the invitation to tender, whether any court criminal proceedings are pending or whether any pending investigation proceedings have become known, whereby an incomplete declaration shall also be deemed to be an incorrect declaration,

9. a signed self-declaration that the applicant is in good health to perform the duties of an authorised district chimney sweep,

10. a signed self-declaration by the applicant, who has acquired his/her professional qualification in another Member State of the European Union or a signatory state to the Agreement on the European Economic Area or Switzerland, that he/she has the necessary knowledge of the German language to carry out the advertised activity,

11. a signed self-declaration that the applicant is in good financial standing, in particular that there are no liabilities to public institutions,

12. a signed self-declaration that, in the event of a successful application, the cancellation of an existing appointment for the previous district will be applied for with effect from the appointment date,

13. a signed declaration of consent in the case of an invitation to tender in accordance with § 9 sentence 2 no. 2 of the Chimney Sweep Crafts Act that the refusal of an appointment to the assigned district by the applicant will generally result in exclusion from the application procedure,

14. a declaration of consent to the involvement of expert third parties in the assessment of the application,

15. in cases where the applicant already administers or has administered a district outside the state of Saxony-Anhalt, the name, address, telecommunications number and e-mail address of the supervisory authority responsible for this district as well as the applicant's declaration of consent to request the personnel file from this supervisory authority,

16. proof of application for a certificate of good conduct in accordance with § 30 Para. 5 BZRG, proof of application for an extract from the central trade register in accordance with § 150 Para. 5 GewO and a certificate in tax matters in accordance with § 85 AO.

The application documents according to No. 7 to 16 must not be older than three months at the time of submission. The application documents in a foreign language must be accompanied by a certified German translation. The applicant may apply for several advertised sweeping districts. However, the applicant must indicate the order of preference of the districts covered by his/her application. If the status is advertised in accordance with Section 9 Sentence 2 No. 2 SchfHwG and several districts are named at the same time, the applicant must state the order of preference for all districts listed there.

In the event of missing or outdated application documents or application documents not submitted on time or missing certified German translations, the applicant must be excluded from the selection procedure. The application documents will be returned with the corresponding note.

Anyone who fraudulently misleads by providing incorrect information or submitting incorrect documents must be excluded from the selection procedure. Citing application documents that were sent in for a previous application is not permitted.

• An authorised district chimney sweep is a person who has been appointed by the competent authority for a district; applicants who fulfil the legal requirements for the independent practice of the chimney sweeping trade may be appointed as authorised district chimney sweeps; The competent authority selects the applicants on the basis of their suitability, qualifications and professional performance; it determines the ranking of the applicants on the basis of these criteria; the appointment of the authorised district chimney sweep is limited to seven years, but ends at the latest at the end of the month in which the appointed person reaches the age of 67. year of age
