Report unexploded ordnance
Service description
If, as a landowner, you find unexploded ordnance on your property, you must report this immediately to the relevant safety authority or the police; otherwise, you will be putting yourself and others at serious risk.
Weapons and munitions include all ammunition or parts of ammunition intended for use in warfare which are explosive by nature, in particular rifle cartridges, bombs, mines, grenades, explosives and detonators.
Explosive ordnance is often not recognisable as such. Much of it is rusted beyond recognition or resembles everyday household items. The duty to report this also applies to members of the public who find ammunition whilst out walking.
Who should I contact?
Please contact your local district authority or the independent city of Dessau-Roßlau. In the independent cities of Magdeburg and Halle, the police headquarters are responsible rather than the city authorities.
What fees are incurred?
The disposal of any explosive ordnance found – in particular, its recovery, transport and destruction – as well as searches for explosive ordnance at locations where there are reasonable grounds for suspicion, are free of charge.
Costs are incurred only for purely precautionary searches for unexploded ordnance where there is an unfounded suspicion of danger, and for the processing of the application for an unexploded ordnance search by the police authority in accordance with its schedule of fees.Legal basis
