Applying for a place in a children’s home
Service description
Care provided in a residential facility, whether day or night, or in any other form of supported accommodation, is intended to support the development of children and young people.
This is a type of educational support service. It may also be a suitable service for young people under Section 41 of SGB VIII.
The type of care provided depends on the age and stage of development of the child or young person. In the various types of accommodation, specialists provide your child with educational and therapeutic support.
Residential care or other forms of supported accommodation constitute educational support. Depending on the situation, this support is intended to:
- achieve a return to the family,
- to prepare for being brought up in another family,
- offer a way of life designed for the long term.
Procedure
- Contact the responsible youth welfare office.
- During a face-to-face meeting, you will be shown the support options available to you. The Youth Welfare Office will try to support you so that your child can continue to live with you.
- If the Youth Welfare Office considers it necessary for your child to be placed in a care home or some other form of supported accommodation, you can submit an application for educational support.
- All parties involved (you, your child, the carers from the care facility and the youth welfare office) meet for a help plan discussion. The help plan sets out how the help is to be organised and which goals are to be achieved.
- The Youth Welfare Office is looking for a suitable care home. You can express your preferences. If there are several options, you can choose the care home.
- Regular checks are carried out to assess whether the support is still appropriate and whether your child can return to the family.
