Bernburg/SLK. Autumn is here – and with it comes the start of the cold and flu season. Under the slogan “Protected together” – part of a nationwide awareness campaign – the Salzlandkreis Public Health Authority is calling on the local population to check and update their vaccination cover against seasonal infectious diseases such as flu, COVID-19, RSV and pneumococcal infections in good time. “Take charge of your own health – seek advice from your GP or here at the Public Health Department,” says Marcus Brune, who heads the Infection Control Division at the district administration.
Across Germany, the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) currently recommends vaccination against these diseases and for specific groups of people:
In the case of flu (influenza), this applies in particular to people aged 60 and over, children and adults with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and medical and nursing staff.
A COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for people aged 75 and over, children and adults with chronic conditions, and healthcare workers.
In the case of RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), the vaccination is recommended for newborns and infants, for people aged 75 and over, for people aged 60 and over with certain serious pre-existing conditions, and for residents of care homes.
Children up to the age of two, people aged 60 and over, and those with certain pre-existing conditions or occupational risks should be vaccinated against pneumococcal disease.

Anyone wishing to check their vaccination status can use the digital vaccination checks provided by the Federal Centre for Health Education. The Salzlandkreis Public Health Authority also draws attention to this.
At www.infektionsschutz.de/impfchecks/, anyone can find out for themselves, step by step and after answering a few questions about their age and risk factors, which vaccinations are recommended based on the latest STIKO guidelines.

Nationwide Vaccination Awareness Week from 9 to 15 November 2026
A particular highlight of the ‘Protected Together’ awareness campaign is the nationwide vaccination awareness week from 9 to 15 November 2026. The public are encouraged to make the most of this awareness week to:
- to have your own vaccination record checked at your GP’s surgery,
- to find out about regional vaccination programmes and
- to protect themselves and their close relatives from infectious diseases and related complications.
