Bernburg. The Salzlandkreis District Public Utilities Authority continues to support residents, as well as towns and local authorities, with the disposal of garden waste close to home. “We intend to provide garden waste containers at the local authorities’ collection points again this autumn, so that residents with organic waste bins can dispose of their garden waste easily and free of charge,” explains operations manager Dirk Trappe. District Administrator Markus Bauer adds: “The towns and local authorities now have clarity. They can take advantage of this opportunity for the benefit of residents.”
To ensure everything is organised properly, the District Public Utilities Authority has now written to all town and local authority administrations with the relevant instructions. According to these instructions, unitary and federated municipalities can simply use the District Economic Enterprise’s website by mid-September to specify which collection points are to receive a green waste bin from the end of September to the end of November, which will then be emptied once a week during this period. In this context, Operations Manager Dirk Trappe points out that the local authorities can continue to organise the collection of green waste at the collection points. The only requirement is to ensure that only green waste from private households with a bio-bin is accepted.
This means that if towns and local authorities also wish to dispose of their green waste from public areas in the correct manner, the district public works department is available as a regional service provider. “Our articles of association stipulate that containers can be ordered for this purpose, subject to a charge,” says operations manager Dirk Trappe. The reason for this clarification is that, in the past, a number of local authorities had also disposed of green waste from public spaces in the green waste containers which the District Economic Services had set up exclusively for private households. This meant that the cost of disposal was borne by the general public. All local authorities have now been informed about how they can support the District Economic Services’ provision of a straightforward, locally accessible green waste disposal service. Operations Manager Dirk Trappe says: “Everyone is now aware of the situation. Responsibilities are clearly defined. Together with the towns and municipalities, we will be able to continue offering a reliable disposal option in future, provided there is a demand for it.” Anyone wishing to dispose of garden waste outside the designated collection periods can, in principle, do so at the recycling centres in the Salzlandkreis. The disposal of small quantities up to one cubic metre from private households is free of charge.
