Bernburg. The six-week summer holidays are slowly drawing to a close. As always, the Salzlandkreis has used the school holidays to carry out a thorough clean of its school buildings and sports halls. Its school caretakers and contractors are also carrying out maintenance work, minor repairs and touch-ups.
Some schools are also carrying out more extensive refurbishments. In Schönebeck, for example, the conference and dining room at the ‘Maxim Gorki’ secondary school is undergoing a comprehensive refurbishment, including a new ceiling, new flooring, a new door to partition the room, fresh plaster on the walls and completely new lighting. Painting and flooring work is also being carried out in some classrooms, and the foyer and corridors are being repainted at the “Am Lerchenfeld” primary and secondary school. Pupils and teachers at the “Lindenstraße” special school can look forward to a newly tiled accessible bathroom and a new kitchen at the IGZ branch, which has already been delivered and will be installed at the start of the new school year. At the “Pestalozzi” special school, construction work on the safety barrier is in its final stages; outside, a container for tools and gardening equipment has been erected and the playing field has been repaired. At the “Otto Allendorff” vocational schools, preparatory work has begun on the shallow-water simulator, whilst the sports hall is currently being fitted with a new heating system. The new prefabricated garage for storage purposes at the “Dr Carl Hermann” grammar school will already be in place when the school reopens.
In Bernburg, demolition and new-build work is continuing apace as part of the extensive refurbishment of the ‘Lebensweg’ special needs school. Work is currently focused on the roof and the access route to the inner courtyard. Micro-piling is being carried out so that the support pillars for the new upper storey can then be installed. When the new school term begins, only the branch at Tolstoiallee 2a will be used as a temporary alternative. At the “Otto Dorn” special needs school, pupils returning after the holidays will find not only new flooring but also a fresh coat of paint in the entrance area and classrooms.
In the Staßfurt area, painting work is also being carried out in the stairwells at Förderstedt Secondary School, as well as at the ‘Am Tierpark’ Secondary School, where painters and floor layers are refurbishing the changing rooms in the sports hall. At the same time, construction work is underway at the ‘Dr. Frank’ Grammar School, particularly to improve fire safety. In the corridor on the first floor, plans are in place to lay a new floor using mastic asphalt, followed by painting and flooring work, the installation of safety-critical electrical systems and the fitting of lighting. These extensive construction works will continue whilst the school remains open.
Painting work is also taking place at the all-day school at Wasserburg in Egeln, in the foyer, in the stairwells and in the boys’ toilets. At the ‘Am Park’ special needs school in Wolmirsleben, painting and flooring work is also being carried out in one of the classrooms.
At the ‘Albert Schweitzer’ comprehensive school in Aschersleben, painters are hard at work in the foyer and stairwell, whilst at the ‘Pestalozzischule’ special school, they are working in the first-floor corridor. At the ‘Kastanienschule’ special school, a new intercom system with a video display is being installed. Shaft and foundation work is being carried out beforehand.
In contrast, a major construction project is underway in the Seeland region: the building site is currently being set up, as the Salzlandkreis intends to carry out extensive refurbishment work on the ‘Seelandschule’ secondary school in Nachterstedt by the end of 2027, with a planned budget of five million euros.
