Staßfurt/Bernburg. Training on a Saturday – the emergency services personnel from the Salzlandkreis Logistics Unit met at the end of July for a joint training session.
It is immensely important to stay up to date at all times. This is because, during major incidents, the Logistics Service supports the fire brigades and other fire and disaster response units, providing equipment, personnel and transport services, and supplying the emergency services. It plays a central role in ensuring that logistical processes run smoothly during operations. Joint training exercises form the basis for smooth cooperation between the various fire services and ensure operational readiness in the event of major incidents.
After a brief briefing at the Fire Service Operations Centre (FTZ) on the day of the exercise, the operation got underway. Even the movement of the participating units from Staßfurt to Bernburg and on to the Töpferwiese was part of the exercise, as getting to know one another better and driving safely in a closed formation are also key elements. The subsequent station-based training initially focused on the 150 kVA emergency power generator. In the event of power cuts or other emergencies, it enables a reliable supply of electrical power to, for example, staging areas, operational sectors or critical facilities. The emergency services practised setting up the system and operating it.
The fire-fighting water supply was another key focus of the training, which involved setting up a longer water supply line using two mobile centrifugal fire-fighting pumps, and the pumping and subsequent delivery of the water. The participants thus practised the use of one of the key modules of the district’s new logistics vehicle.
The logistics component was also incorporated into the training. Organising and ensuring catering for the emergency services is an essential part of prolonged operational situations – including during this Saturday’s training exercise.
The Salzlandkreis is continuously expanding its fire and disaster response capabilities through its specialist logistics service. Its new, state-of-the-art logistics support vehicles are equipped with various modules, including those for fire-fighting water supply and respiratory protection operations. At the same time, the specialist unit, led by managers Sebastian Krüger and Markus Winter, continues to grow in terms of personnel. The Unseburg Fire Brigade has become a new permanent part of the unit and will now provide support to the local fire brigades in Bernburg (Saale), Groß Rosenburg and Latdorf/Pobzig. They all work closely with the specialist fire and disaster response service at the district administration and would also like to thank the town of Bernburg for making the Töpferwiese available as a training venue for the most recent joint training exercise.
