Bernburg/Staßfurt. It is brand new and impresses with its excellent equipment and modules for water supply and respiratory protection, housed in 15 roll-on/roll-off containers – the Logistics Equipment Vehicle (GW-L), which is now expanding the Salzlandkreis’s fleet of emergency vehicles for fire and disaster response. Staff from the district administration collected the vehicle from EMPL Fahrzeugwerk GmbH in Zahna-Elster, and it is now stationed at the Fire Service Technical Centre (FTZ) in Staßfurt. There, it supports the FTZ standby team in providing comprehensive support to the volunteer fire brigades across the Salzlandkreis.

"We are strengthening our operational readiness alongside the local authorities and all rescue services in the Salzland district and we are ensuring professional organisation." District Administrator Markus Bauer is also delighted with the new addition and continues: "Thanks also to the state of Saxony-Anhalt for the centralised procurement and the financial support." The state is contributing 160,000 euros of the approximately 600,000 euro expenditure. District fire chief Tobias Schumann explains: "I am delighted about the further modernisation of our district fire service fleet and the resulting increase in efficiency. We are moving in the right direction. Thank you to everyone involved."
The new GW-L2 serves as an emergency vehicle for day-to-day needs and will also provide important assistance within the framework of the specialised logistics service in disaster control. This is because it is specially designed for supplying emergency sites with urgently needed materials such as respiratory protection equipment and components for the extinguishing water supply. Its service in the Salzland district will significantly improve the flow of materials in the event of an emergency, which will contribute to a noticeable relief and increased security of supply.

A total of 15 trolleys for the interior equipment contain 36 SCBAs, two PFPN 10-2000 mobile fire pumps and 2,000 metres of B hose with the corresponding accessories. This means that a comprehensive breathing apparatus reserve is available for larger or longer operations, which also increases the overall breathing apparatus pool. And long distances can be covered from the extinguishing water extraction to the extinguishing water supply. The vehicle can be flexibly loaded with the required trolleys depending on the requirements and purpose of the operation, thus ensuring the logistics mission in disaster control - an important component in the professional organisation of the Salzland district's specialist logistics service in addition to the increased operational readiness of all fire services.
