Bernburg/SLK. As usual, the Salzlandkreis is using the break in school activities during the summer holidays to carry out a thorough clean of its buildings and sports halls. School caretakers and contractors are currently carrying out maintenance work, repairs and touch-ups.
Major works are also currently underway at a number of special schools and grammar schools. One example is the “Pestalozzi” special school in Schönebeck. Extensive building works are taking place there, particularly relating to fire safety, including demolition, electrical, drywall and painting work, as well as roofing, groundworks and carpentry. The school building is being fitted with a new smoke alarm system. All dust- and dirt-intensive work is scheduled to be completed by the start of the school year, whilst some remaining work will continue.
The home economics room at the Otto Dorn special school in Bernburg is being refurbished. This involves extensive tiling, painting and electrical work. At the same time, the lighting is being upgraded to energy-efficient LED lighting. The assembly hall, which is also used as a public meeting room, is being repainted, and new flooring is being laid in some of the classrooms.
The “Lebensweg” special school in Bernburg is currently being prepared for work under the “Schul(FREI)Räume” funding programme, for which an application has been submitted. Excavators are digging around the outer walls of the school building to assess its structural condition and evaluate its load-bearing capacity. Inside, final surveying work is being carried out to support further planning.
At the Friedrich Schiller Grammar School in Calbe, work to stabilise the ground beneath an entire wing of the building has already been completed using an injection method applied to the foundations of the main building. Surveying work is currently being carried out in the school building to assess the current condition. This data will serve as the planning basis for the upcoming renovation of the main building, the old wing. The ‘Urban Development’ funding scheme is a joint project between Salzlandkreis and the town of Calbe.
Construction work is currently underway at the “Dr. Frank” Grammar School in Staßfurt, primarily to improve fire safety. To this end, extensive building work has begun in the area of the listed stairwell. The stairwell is being upgraded to serve as an additional escape and rescue route. Painting, metalwork and electrical work are required. Work to improve fire safety in the classrooms and staff rooms is also continuing. Two classrooms are currently being fitted with soundproof ceilings and new ceiling lights, and painting work will complete the refurbishment of the classrooms. Tradespeople have also begun fire safety work in the four preparation rooms and in the extended school management office. If everything goes to plan, the rooms on the upper floor will be ready by the time the first bell rings. However, the construction work as a whole will continue after the summer holidays whilst the school remains in session.
There’s plenty going on at Carolinum Grammar School in Bernburg during the holidays too. The refurbishment of the heating system at the Schlossgartenstraße building is in full swing, ensuring that the system will be able to deliver the required output once the work is complete.
