An amendment to the Education Act came into force on 15 July 2025. Applications to attend a school outside of the school districts and school catchment areas are no longer processed by the state education authority. Responsibility has been transferred to the administrations of the municipalities (primary schools) and the districts and independent cities (secondary schools).
For primary schools: Please submit new applications, as before, to the primary school in the catchment area where your child is permanently resident. Your application will be forwarded by the primary school to the local authority, where it will be processed and a decision made.
For secondary schools: Please submit new applications directly to the local authority of the district or independent city in which your child is permanently resident.
