Schönebeck. Dr Holger Brülls is a conservator at the State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments and Archaeology in Saxony-Anhalt and a recognised expert in glass art. He is also an author and will be speaking on the topic “Lichtungen – New Art in Old Churches in Saxony-Anhalt” at the Salzlandmuseum on 23 April.

Over the past decade, a fascinating and widely recognised ensemble of contemporary stained glass has been created in historic village churches around the towns of Zerbst, Köthen and Dessau in the Anhalt region of Saxony-Anhalt, to which artists from the central German region as well as artists with an international sphere of influence have contributed. The projects are based on the renovation and design of windows, which is "on the agenda" at some point in every church building as part of sustainable restoration measures. In many cases, however, they go far beyond the topic of windows. In each of the locations, mostly small villages, the village church has gained a new and special aura in the course of the necessary structural repairs. The publication "Lichtungen" was created to mark the 10th anniversary of a unique art and culture project in Germany dedicated to contemporary art and sponsored by the Evangelical Church of Anhalt.
