Bernburg/Aschersleben. The Salzlandkreis district has taken over the B180 federal highway between Mehringer Straße in Aschersleben and the district border with Mansfeld-Südharz. Now, the inner-city section of the route is to be renovated with financial assistance from the federal government, a joint measure by the federal government, the state of Saxony-Anhalt, the city of Aschersleben and the Salzlandkreis district, for which there is an agreement with all parties involved. The planned construction project in the area of the main road "Eislebener Straße" (Krankenhausberg) covers a length of 664 metres.
As part of the overall project, the district administration and the city also agreed to plan and build the ancillary road facilities and signed a corresponding agreement in August. The cost estimate is around 814,000 euros. A roadside footpath and cycle path, bus stops and street lighting are to be built on one side of the town centre from the Mehringer Straße junction to the Zeisigweg access road. The Salzland district applied to the state for funding and has now received approval for 733,000 euros from ERDF and state funds. This corresponds to 90 per cent of the eligible expenditure.
"Another piece of good news just before the end of the year," said District Administrator Markus Bauer, expressing his delight, "even if we still have a lot of work ahead of us with the award of the planning services and all the subsequent steps. The construction work must be completed by June 2028. We will upgrade the transport link we have taken over in line with our Salzlandkreis 2030 strategy for the future by also creating opportunities for sustainable mobility. This proves once again how inter-municipal cooperation on major projects can fulfil all partner interests."
Aschersleben's Lord Mayor, Steffen Amme, says: "I am delighted that the funding decision has been received and that the project can be realised. It is of particular importance for the town. Being able to get to the hospital safely on foot or by bike is important for many citizens."
To ensure modern mobility in rural areas, the Salzland district is always leading the way with joint municipal projects. District Administrator Markus Bauer explains: "We are continuing to invest in our infrastructure in order to improve the conditions for everyone in the Salzland district as an attractive place to live and do business." The Salzland district will act as the overall organiser of this project. Head of department Tilo Wechselberger, responsible for district development, explains the division: The federal government is providing money for the renovation of the carriageway and will contribute to the actual construction costs, the state road authority will carry out the corresponding construction work, while the Salzland district and the town of Aschersleben will build a new footpath and cycle path alongside the road with funding.
As soon as the new bypass between Aschersleben and Quenstedt is completed, the entire section of the former B 180 federal road from Mehringer Straße in Aschersleben to the Mansfeld-Südharz district boundary will be designated as district road 2331. The district road network thus grows to 370 kilometres.
